I fall prey to all fancy gadgets easily...especially the ones that reside in the kitchen. I have only moved into my flat 5 years ago and I had already changed my built in oven and my washing machine 2 years ago. Wretched! I am currently enamoured of my 2 new toys - my Blackberry Bold 9700 and my new Braun Juicer.
Well, the first one doesn't strictly count because the company decided to switch to the BB platform for push mail hence I was automatically converted - albeit grudgingly.I had held out for almost 2 years, refusing to change to a push mail phone because I did not want to be held by the electronic leash... Suprisingly, it has been most liberating. The best part of it is L had, unknown to me,also bought a new BB 2 months ago. Ever since then, we had been waiting for my phone to arrive (it was out of stock for quite a while) so that we can BB each other using some of the coolest functions available. Now, we can message and send photos to each other on BB messenger for free! Definitely saving us lots on phone bill and it has also given us versatility over Skype which tends to confine one to the computer. For my blog, I get instant reminders when someone leaves a comment on my blog and I can moderate and pulish the comment real time using my phone! How tragically cool is that?
My next new toy is a very modest Braun Juicer. I had chosen this very basic model over the bigger and more fancy ones for one reason - size. I wouldn't have any more space on my table top for anything bigger. I had BB'd L after I got my juicer and he came back with a response that was so typical of men - 'Why do every woman I know feel compelled to buy a juicer, use it for a few times and never ever to see it again.'.
His sentiments is not unique - actually when I was contemplating to buy the juicer, I had also worried that it would end up as a white elephant in my kitchen. That's why I had chosen to spend minimum money on it and made sure that I get something which is small enough to sit on my table top. As of now, I have my cake mixer, my blender, my coffee machine and now my juicer on my table top. And because they are all sitting there, I make use of them very regularly.My experience tells me that if your gadget has to be put away in a cabinet after use, the tendency for it to turn into a white elephant is extremely high. (I love my India made Preethi blender to death! I use it for my rempah, purees etc.. )I've had my juicer for almost a week now, and I have used it on the average, twice a day - not bad for a start.
And I have just found a new use for it in this 100% fruit juice lollies treat! - Easypeasy, absolutely no skills required!
Recipe :
125g Fresh Strawberries
1 small Mango
300ml Fresh orange juice
Method:
1. I used my juicer to get the 300ml orange juice.
2. I blend all three ingredients in my Preethi blender until I get smooth paste.
3. Pour the smoothie into lolly molds and freeze.

I feel for you about kitchen gadgets Shirley. I have had a juicer taking up space on my counter n then bought more gadgets taking up even more space n finally they all sit on the shelf in another room. It takes a lot of courage to haul them out to the kitchen but my blog makes me...:)

Wow, you have a beautiful blog and photos! The lollies look so refreshing. Even though it is freezing in most parts of the northern hemisphere, I still wouldn't mind having one of these.
They are gorgeous lollies, Shirley! You make simple things look so good. And I know what you mean about spending minimum money and putting them in sight. I use a $19.90 Made-in-China mixer from Carrefour. I really thought I wasn't gonna bake & blog for long, hence the modest sum spent (I call it a toy that works because my children's toys cost more than that). Surprisingly, it's still working after 1 year. And surprisingly, I am still baking and blogging!
Ikea has some ice lollies mould too, but the sticks come together with the set. So, if kids eat them and throw them away... have to forage for them in the wastebin...

Zurin, I agree with you that blogging does motivates one to push boundaries.... Just like what Ju had mentioned, I am still a little dazed when I look back to the time I first started the blog- I had thought I would turn fickle and this would fizzle off... well, I am still hanging in there, and am finding myself pushing my own boundaries when it comes to cooking,baking and taking photos... It's a good thing - I hope I will persist.
Wendy, I got these molds at Daiso in Singapore, a Japanese Style $2 shop - where everything is sold for $2. I know what you mean by the molds that come with plastic sticks- I deliberately stayed away from those. I am old fashioned - I still like my lollies on wooden ice-cream sticks
I am the exact same way with gadgets! I'm currently eyeing a food processor after my old blender (which I used as a stand in for a processor and worked rather nicely) broke on me last week.
Anyway I love that your little ice cream moulds hold the ice cream sticks in place- how handy and adorable!
In the same light as you re gadgets and space and blogging..These lollies are adorable..I love your light..you seem to have the same bright area as Ju and Zurin..may I ask if it is natural light? In Canada..it gets dark very early here..and many days are cloudy..It is difficult to find light..adding lights looks artificial to what I have tried? Do you have suggestions? Thank you.

Hello,Monique. Actually I am still doing trial & error as far as photography is concerned. I agree with you lighting is tricky- if there is good light, the most mundane subject can look so much more 'polished'. I have been struggling to find the best spot of light in my apartment.Through experimentation, I find that best spot is in my kitchen during day time. I have also been experimenting with styro foam as reflectors - my last 2 posts are the results. I also have a table light recommended by Trissa (Ego lights) but I agree with you, it is very tricky - the effect can become very harsh but these become handy when you only have time at night. My next posting on bimbimbab is done with the Ego lights and residual evening light (about 7pm) at the same spot in my kitchen. (Lollies were taken on a Sunny morning at around 9.30am.My photo spot is about 2m from the window.) Will email you more details.

Hi Wendy,RM5! That's quite alot...Daiso is more affordable in Singapore, I suppose. I don't feel the pinch to pay $2 for the items but I would hesitate to pay $5 for them. Yes, I think Daiso does not have 'fixed' stock per se. They will put up new things as and when they have it.
I have never seen anything like that around here!!
However those lollies look quite the treat...love the colors...and I LOVE your blog!!!!
